TMJ Therapy

TMJ therapy treats issues in the temporal-mandibular joint, or the area where the head and jaw meet. The causes of TMJ issues include excess muscle tension, trauma or misalignment of the teeth. Along with the meeting of bones in this area, there are also muscles involved and when something is wrong, it can cause earaches, headaches, soreness during mouth movement, pain in jaw muscles, clicking and/or popping of the jaw and general soreness in the face. TMJ treatment is specific to the cause of the problem such as adjusting the bite, filling gaps in the teeth, replacing missing teeth, and use of a plastic mouthpiece if clenching and grinding are a cause of the pain. Without treatment, the area can suffer permanent damage.
